Background
In the construction industry, before the application of BIM technology, professional and technical workers are often required to interpret the architectural design blueprint and carry out construction. If the interpretation or design is wrong, it is often found after the completion of construction. The cost of correcting these errors, often in the millions, is prohibitively high. There is an urgent need for solutions that identify design problems before construction and make it easier for everyone to find solutions.

About design

VC 3D is a simulation application based on the Unity engine for real estate construction. In the pre-construction design stage, designers of various professions combine the models into the final construction model. This product renders the BIM model and enables everyone to participate, not just designers and engineers who can read the building blueprints. The project's sales manager, operations manager, and even customer service staff can go into the model and roam around, and flag and comment on any dissatisfaction points.

Three ways to interact with the model

In order to allow different types of users to see smoothly in the model, I designed three interaction modes.

The walking mode is a simulation of a person walking in the model, where gravity and collision are in effect.
Flight mode is often the mode that engineers and designers need to check on the pipes and walls in the air, which will ignore neutrality and collision.
Anchor point mode is to view the facade effect of the whole building model. In this mode, the user's sight direction will always be aligned with the building model.

Flexible model map navigation

In addition to walking or flying through the building model with the keyboard and mouse, we also support quickly teleporting to any room on any floor of the model using the model map.

Comment on the model

When the model can be smoothly viewed, each professional personnel can annotate the model, according to their own knowledge and experience, explain the design problems. These questions will be submitted to the architect for uniform revision.
